The consulting firm EY expects the Austrian construction industry to reach its low point in the current year 2026 and forecasts a construction volume of 51.7 billion euros.

Downturn in Building Construction

EY's analysis shows that the market has been weakening for years: between 2021 and 2025, real construction volume in Austria declined by an average of 3.9 percent per year, with the sector losing nearly twelve percent of its volume in real terms overall. In 2021, construction volume had still reached 58.7 billion euros.

Building construction – that is, the construction of new buildings – is particularly affected. Real volume here fell from 50.6 billion euros in 2021 to 43.3 billion euros last year. Real new-building volume in building construction declined by an average of 5.8 percent per year between 2021 and 2025.
