Following a brutal assault in a park in Vienna-Donaustadt, a man died of severe head injuries in hospital on the night into Sunday, while police search for two assailants who fled on e-scooters.
Unfathomable scenes unfolded late on Saturday evening on Zieritzgasse near the Hardegggasse U-Bahn station close to the Donauspital. At around 11 p.m., a witness at the edge of a park area in Vienna-Donaustadt heard a woman screaming for help. The police who were alerted ultimately found two people on a lawn in this green space, a man and a woman.
The man lay motionless on the grass. He had no pulse and was not breathing. He had severe head injuries. Next to him stood a woman who had called for help and who, like the knocked-out man, displayed injuries consistent with a beating. After resuscitation first by the police officers and later by the arriving emergency services, he was taken to a hospital.
