In the night to Monday, a 42-year-old Syrian man was arrested in Vienna-Penzing after he allegedly physically abused his 12-year-old son and the boy's 17-year-old brother and threatened them with death, according to police.

Police were called to an apartment in Vienna-Penzing in the night to Monday. "There a 42-year-old man is said to have physically abused his 12-year-old son," the police summarized the current state of the investigation. Officers arrested the man in the apartment itself, the Vienna State Police Directorate announced.

What is known so far

According to police, the 12-year-old suffered "numerous hematomas and hemorrhages all over his body." The boy was, according to investigators, beaten with a cable and a leather belt. "The 42-year-old is alleged to have beaten the 12-year-old with a cable as well as a leather belt and threatened to kill him," the police report states.
