Gelsenkirchen, June 11, 2026
Der FC Schalke 04 has signed Austrian striker Junior Adamu from SC Freiburg and, following his medical check, presented him on Thursday as the second new signing of the summer.
Adamu, born on June 6, 2001, listed as a center-forward, moves from SC Freiburg to Gelsenkirchen. According to a Schalke statement, he "signed a contract with the Gelsenkirchen club until June 2029". According to Bild information, the transfer fee amounts to 800,000 euros – a fraction of the sum Freiburg had paid to Red Bull Salzburg around three years ago. At the time, the Breisgau club had paid a guaranteed 6 million euros; bonuses could have increased the deal to as much as 9.5 million euros.
Adamu himself explained his move with the personal impression he took from the talks with the club's inner circle: "In each of our conversations, it became clear to me why the coach and the sporting management would like to have me in their team. The trust of those responsible and the clear playing philosophy were ultimately the reasons to play for this club with its enthusiastic fans."
