The Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe has confirmed the verdict of the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz against the Hezbollah member Ammar A. Alissa for crimes in Syria.

The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe has made the conviction of Ammar A. Alissa for crimes in Syria final and binding. The court announced this on Thursday. The defense had filed an appeal after the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz had convicted the defendant in proceedings including for war crimes and severe sexual violence.

Background: Crimes in the Busra Al Sham Region

Ammar A. Alissa was involved in attacks and acts of violence in Syria as a member of the Hezbollah militia. The BGH now decided that the findings of the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz are solid and show no legal errors that would justify overturning the verdict. The verdict from Koblenz has thus become final.
