Karlsruhe, 02 July 2026

The Federal Prosecutor General in Karlsruhe has indicted Ukrainian officer Serhii K., who, according to the indictment, is alleged to have led the sabotage of the Baltic Sea pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2 in September 2022.

The charges in detail

The Federal Prosecutor's Office accuses the defendant of having acted as the leader of a seven-member team in the coordinated detonation of three of the four strands of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines. The indictment includes, among other things, the charge of a war crime in the form of an attack on civilian objects, a serious explosive detonation, the destruction of structures, and the disruption of public supply facilities.

According to the details of the indictment released on Thursday in Karlsruhe, the group consisted of several professional divers, a skipper, and an explosives expert, allegedly coordinated by K. Using a chartered sailing yacht named "Andromeda," which had previously been rented from a Rostock company using forged documents, the team is said to have sailed from the German Baltic island of Rügen into international waters near the Danish island of Bornholm.
