The education researchers Claudia Schneider and Sabine Zenz have called for a permanent qualification pathway for lateral entrants into the teaching profession, as well as systematic quality assurance during career entry.
In view of ongoing staff shortages at Austrian schools, the researchers Claudia Schneider and Sabine Zenz are advocating for a fundamental restructuring of lateral entrant training. Instead of a 'temporary crisis strategy', the researchers are calling for a permanent qualification pathway for lateral entrants with a dedicated profile, as well as quality assurance measures during career entry — for example, through structured mentoring programs, classroom observation by and with colleagues, learning coaching, and reflection within the framework of PH (Pedagogical University) courses.
