Austria's Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) wants to raise the share of fully trained teachers among annual new hires from the current 44 percent to 65 percent in 2027, according to the human resources strategy published by his ministry on Friday.

In the current school year, the share of career entrants who have already completed at least their bachelor's degree in teacher education has fallen to 44 percent. That is less than in previous years, as the ministry notes in its budget sub-volume. For 2027, 65 percent is named as the target figure in the sub-volume for the double budget.
