Zurich, 30 September 2026

The FIFA world football association has accused the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the North and Central American confederation CONCACAF of a "disinformation campaign" after their top officials demanded large payouts from FIFA's reserves.

The conflict between FIFA and UEFA escalated openly at the end of September 2026. It was triggered by a joint appearance by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, who publicly called on FIFA to pay each of the 211 member associations "at least ten million dollars" from the world body's reserves.

The FIFA reserves are put at "around six billion dollars" in the call, which became public around ten days ago. If the minimum amount demanded is extrapolated to all 211 associations, the volume of the demand would correspond to a third of the total reserves.
