Hannover, 22 July 2026

The Finals 2026 were officially launched on Tuesday evening in Hannover with an approximately 75-minute opening show on a floating stage in Lake Maschsee, one day before the start of competitions for 143 German national championship titles across 24 sports.

It is the largest edition since the format began in 2019. Nearly 4,000 participants are taking part. Over four days, the multisport event will crown new German champions in a total of 143 decisions. This is according to a SID report.

The ceremonial opening took place on Tuesday, 22 July 2026, at the Opernplatz and on a stage anchored in Lake Maschsee. After rain showers had lingered over the city in the afternoon, the clouds parted just in time for the start, and sunshine accompanied the hour-and-a-half-long celebration. "Die Finals 2026 Hannover und das Maschseefest sind eröffnet" was announced at the official launch, before a buzzer was pressed and a black-red-gold fireworks display rose above the water.
