The Financial Police inspected 1,327 foreign companies operating in Austria last year, requesting fines totaling approximately €5.37 million.

The inspections targeted companies from abroad performing work in Austria. A total of 3,691 posted or loaned workers were inspected, as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Saturday in a joint press release. According to the statement, there was suspicion of underpayment in 274 cases – corresponding to approximately eight percent of the employees inspected.

In addition to the requests for fines, the Financial Police filed 433 criminal complaints for failing to keep or provide wage documentation. The authorities thereby combined sanctions against wage dumping with those for bureaucratic violations. The total amount of requested fines came to approximately €5.37 million.
