Five regional leaders from Austria jointly and across party lines called for the complete abolition of the aviation levy on Tuesday.

The demand was made jointly and across party lines by Peter Hanke, Christian Stocker, Karoline Edtstadler, Anton Mattle and Daniel Fellner. The five regional leaders thus represent different political camps and are advocating a common solution to reduce the cost of air travel.

According to those involved, abolishing the levy would send a clear signal in favour of an active regional policy. The measure is intended to reduce the cost burden on air travel and improve the conditions for securing flight connections and enabling new routes.

Joint demand across party lines

Peter Hanke said the complete abolition of the aviation levy was a "clear signal for an active regional policy". "It would reduce the cost burden on air travel and improve the conditions for securing flight connections, enabling new routes and strengthening Austrian airports in international competition."
