Forest Fire in Altenberg bei Linz: Eleven Fire Brigades Deployed, Blaze Under Control

Water Supply as the Greatest Hurdle

The commander described the water supply in the affected section of forest as particularly challenging. Because sufficient extinguishing water was not available on site, supply lines had to be laid over considerable distances. This also made it necessary to alert a total of eleven brigades.

The fire brigades worked in a coordinated manner to bring water to the fire site through multiple lines and thereby establish a stable extinguishing water supply. Only in this way was it possible to halt the spread of the fire in the wooded area.

Damage to Agricultural Vehicle

According to the current state of facts, an agricultural vehicle was severely damaged by the fire. Information on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage was not initially available.

After extinguishing the blaze, the emergency services carried out mop-up operations to prevent the forest floor from reigniting. For this purpose, hotspots were specifically cooled and controlled with water.

The municipality of Altenberg bei Linz lies in the Upper Austrian Mühlviertel, northeast of the city of Linz. Forested areas in this region are repeatedly prone to fires during dry summer months, which is why fire brigades in the surrounding area regularly train together.

The deployment on Monday underscores the importance of a functioning extinguishing water supply in rural areas. Hofer pointed out that without the supply lines from several localities, the fire would have been barely manageable.

In the afternoon, control and securing operations continued in the affected forested area. The responsible emergency services inspected the fire site section by section for possible remaining hotspots.

The exact cause of the forest fire is not yet known. According to the information available, the investigations are being continued by the responsible authorities.

No residents were injured according to the emergency services. Nor have any reports been received of damage to residential buildings or agricultural crops beyond the affected vehicle.
