A 39-year-old man was arrested in Salzburg on Saturday in connection with an attempted extortion against German baby food manufacturer Hipp, as authorities investigate manipulated products containing rat poison.

Suspect Denies Allegations

The arrested man, a former employee of Hipp, denies all allegations related to the case. His lawyer, Manfred Arbacher-Stöger, has expressed skepticism about the potential imposition of pre-trial detention, stating in German: *"er ist überzeugt, dass sein Mandant mit der Sache 'nichts zu tun hat'"* ("he is convinced that his client has nothing to do with the case").

The defense claims that rat poison found at the suspect’s residence was intended for agricultural activities in Slovakia, where the man reportedly has ties. The public prosecutor’s office in Eisenstadt has applied for pre-trial detention, with a decision expected on Tuesday.
