Former SN domestic politics chief Andreas Koller dies at 65

Beyond his editorial work, Koller was active in several high-ranking functions within the Austrian media industry. He was chairman of the Publishing Council of the Association of Austrian Newspapers (VÖZ), a board member of the Austrian Media Academy, and president of the Presseclub Concordia.

In an obituary, "SN" editor-in-chief Karin Zauner highlighted the broad impact of his work. "Sein Tun, seine Worte, sein Einsatz für jüngere Kolleginnen und Kollegen haben längst breite und tiefe Wurzeln geschlagen", she paid tribute to him. In a further statement, Zauner wrote: "Er hat sich immer für die Entwicklung der Medienbranche, die Ethik und die Qualitätsstandards in unserem Beruf eingesetzt, sei es im Presserat oder im Presseclub Concordia, wo er Präsident war".

VÖZ managing director Gerald Grünberger also paid tribute to Koller in a statement. "Er und sein messerscharfe[r], analytische[r] Blick auf die politischen Entwicklungen sowie sein unermüdliches Engagement für unsere Branche werden mit Sicherheit fehlen", Grünberger is quoted as saying. The industry was losing with him a defining figure who had helped shape the development of domestic journalism in various top-level functions.

Koller was reportedly committed for years to issues of media ethics and to promoting the next generation of journalists. His analytical approach to political developments was regarded in the industry as precise and independent.
