A 58-year-old former employee of an SOS Children's Village in Salzburg stood trial Wednesday, accused of repeatedly sexually abusing two underage girls in his care between 2017 and 2019, though he denied all charges.

Trial Proceedings and Allegations

Judge Martina Kocher walked the defendant through the accusations during the hearing at the Salzburg Regional Court. The man, who cannot be named under Austrian privacy laws, faces charges of severe sexual abuse of minors, coercion, and abuse of authority. Prosecutors allege he repeatedly touched the girls—both under 14 at the time—in their chest and genital areas.

"Die minderjährigen Opfer haben sich anderen Personen anvertraut," said the prosecutor, noting the girls had confided in others about the abuse. One former caregiver testified that a victim told her, "Sie hat gesagt, das ist über ein Jahr gegangen, dass sie es mehreren Erwachsenen erzählt hat, aber dass ihr keiner geglaubt habe." The defense, however, argued the accusations were inconsistent.
