The Berlin Regional Court has sentenced a 45-year-old educator to a prison term of three years and four months for mistreatment of wards in four cases, after he allegedly physically and psychologically abused four foster children over more than nine years.

According to the court, the offenses occurred between February 2010 and August 2019 in a family-like group home in Berlin-Spandau and in Oranienburg, Brandenburg, in the Oberhavel district. The siblings were between two and eight years old at the beginning. The group home was managed by the defendant and his wife. At the time of the group home's opening, both had only recently completed their educator training and had little professional experience.
