France's national football team may have to go without midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni at the World Cup, after he picked up a thigh injury during the final training session.
According to the French broadcaster RMC Sport and the newspaper "L'Équipe," the 25-year-old felt muscular discomfort during the preparation session and was unable to complete training. Tchouaméni, who is normally under contract with Spanish top club Real Madrid, was subsequently given a medical examination. An official statement from the French Football Federation (FFF) was not initially available.
For the "Équipe Tricolore," the potential loss is a severe setback, as Tchouaméni has been part of the team's regular lineup for years. He played the full 90 minutes in three of the four World Cup matches so far; only in the 3:0 win over Iraq did coach Didier Deschamps replace him with Manu Koné. In the other matches, Deschamps fielded the central midfield partnership of Tchouaméni and Adrien Rabiot.
