Frequency Festival in St. Pölten relies on parking ban system to combat traffic in residential areas

The festival management responded with a series of organizational measures. "Ein eigenes Parkverbotssystem soll den Festivalverkehr aus den Siedlungen fernhalten," the organizer team stated. The goal is to concentrate visitor flows as much as possible on the designated areas and to prevent illegal parking in residential neighborhoods around the site.

Background: Residents complain about parking-search traffic

In addition to the parking ban system, access points to the festival grounds and designated parking areas have also been reorganized according to the organizers. The organizers hope this will relieve the neighboring communities and ensure smoother operations for visitors.

Organizer Harald Jenner expressed fundamental satisfaction with the initial phase on the sidelines of the festival, but also acknowledged problems. "Ganz, ganz, ganz am Anfang waren ein paar nicht so happy," Jenner said, referring to the reactions of individual residents in the early hours.

The City of St. Pölten and the municipality of Traisen are involved in the planning as regional partners. Lower Austrian authorities are also coordinating the traffic management measures to largely keep resident traffic away from access roads into residential areas during the festival days.

Organizer measures

The organizers emphasize that directing visitor flows is an ongoing process and will be fine-tuned depending on attendance. Complaint channels for residents have also been set up so that issues can be addressed directly on site.

On social networks, some festivalgoers had previously reported full parking lots and long walks to the entrances. The new regulations are intended, among other things, to ensure that emergency routes remain clear and that local public transport is not additionally burdened.

Reactions and outlook

The organizers assess the current record as a positive signal for the remaining festival days. If the system also works on the main day with the expected large visitor numbers, the concept could be carried over in the coming years, according to Jenner.

For residents, it remains to be seen whether the measures will hold up over the entire duration of the festival. The organizers announced that the effectiveness of the parking ban system and the access regulations will be evaluated together with the city after the festival concludes.
