The fuel discount took effect during the night of 1 October and lowers prices for petrol and diesel at petrol stations in Germany.

With the fuel discount taking effect at midnight, taxes on fuels are reduced, so that litre prices for petrol and diesel at many petrol stations in Germany are noticeably dropping. The measure had already been announced politically in advance and now automatically appears in the pricing of petrol stations.

Pricing Rhythm at the Pump

Since the introduction of the so-called 12 o'clock rule, the morning is considered a comparatively cheap time to refuel. According to ADAC, prices often continue to fall during the late morning and then rise significantly again around midday, sometimes by more than 20 cents per litre. Those who consciously shift their journey to the morning can make particularly effective use of the discount relief.
