The German passenger car market recorded an increase of 15.7 percent compared to the same month last year in June 2026, with 296,378 newly registered cars, as electric vehicles from Tesla and BYD achieved the strongest sales jump.
As the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) in Flensburg announced in its half-year balance, 296,378 new passenger cars were registered in June, which was 15.7 percent more than in the same month last year. „der deutsche Automarkt hat zum Ende des ersten Halbjahres deutlich an Dynamik zugelegt“, the authority stated. This continues the upward trend that began in spring on the German car market.
Electric vehicle boom drives the market
The electric cars from Tesla and BYD were in particularly high demand in the past month. According to further details, Tesla saw an increase of 318 percent to 7,768 cars. BYD boosted its new registrations by 273.7 percent to a 2.1 percent market share. The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt registered 84,057 pure electric cars in June, bringing their share to 28.4 percent, compared to 18.4 percent in June 2025. Compared to the same month last year, this corresponded to an increase of 78.2 percent.
