The German Cities' Association (Deutscher Städtetag) has called for statutory long-term care insurance to be converted into a full coverage insurance in order to close the growing gaps in care financing.

Call for fundamental restructuring

The president of the German Cities' Association, Burkhard Jung, spoke out in favour of a fundamental reform of long-term care insurance in an interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung on Wednesday. The current partial cost insurance is increasingly reaching its limits because the costs of care places and care services are rising while the benefits provided by the insurance are not growing at the same rate. "Wir brauchen eine Vollversicherung, damit die Pflege für alle bezahlbar bleibt", said Jung.
