The 80-year-old filmmaker is being recognized for 'outstanding services to German film,' essentially a prize for his life's work. Wenders, alongside Werner Herzog and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, is considered one of the country's most influential directors, having created classics such as 'Paris, Texas' and 'Wings of Desire' ('Der Himmel über Berlin').
