Germany’s domestic intelligence service will now rely on a European data analysis software as an alternative to the US company Palantir.
Decision for Digital Sovereignty
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has successfully concluded the testing phase of a European alternative to Palantir’s software. "The 'Proof of Concept' phase, i.e., the feasibility demonstration of the procured product, has been successfully completed," the intelligence agency stated.
The decision comes at a time when discussions about digital sovereignty in Europe are gaining importance. "It is imperative that our security agencies have access to powerful software tools," said Sebastian Fiedler, the domestic policy spokesperson for the SPD in the Bundestag. "But Palantir must not play any role at the federal level. We need European alternatives."
