Producer prices in Germany declined by 0.3 percent in June 2026 compared to the previous month, while on a year-over-year basis they remained 1.8 percent above the level of the same month a year earlier.

As the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported, producer prices of industrial products in June were 1.8 (May: 2.2) percent above the level of the same month a year earlier. Compared to the previous month, the index fell by 0.3 percent. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast precisely this monthly rate of minus 0.3 percent; for the annual rate, they had expected plus 1.5 percent.

What the index measures

The index of producer prices for industrial products measures the development of prices in mining, manufacturing, and the energy and water industries for products from manufacturers - before they enter trade. Producer prices generally have a delayed effect on consumer prices, which is why observers consider the figure a leading indicator for inflation developments.
