East Rutherford, 25 June 2026

The German men's national football team plays its final group-stage match of the World Cup against Ecuador on Thursday evening (22:00 CEST) in the East Rutherford stadium near New York, which holds over 80,000 spectators.

After two wins and a goal difference of 9:2, the DFB side has already secured its place in the round of 16. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann announced that he wanted to send a "Mischung" of regulars and reserves onto the pitch for the third group match. With another win, the team could match the record of twelve consecutive wins set during the era of national team coach Jupp Derwall (1979/1980).

Ecuador under pressure to win

Ecuador, by contrast, needs a win to keep alive its chances of advancing. "La Tri" lost their opener 0:1 to the Ivory Coast and then drew 0:0 against Curaçao. Head coach Sebastián Beccacece is preparing his team for the match at the World Cup base camp in Columbus.
