Incumbent Graz mayor Elke Kahr is to face a re-election vote in the municipal council following local elections in which the Greens took almost 15 percent of the vote and the ÖVP finished second at 25.3 percent.

Elke Kahr, who leads the KPÖ in Graz, is returning to the municipal council for a mayoral vote after the latest local election produced a fragmented result without a clear governing majority. The vote is scheduled to take place in the council chamber in the coming days, with party groupings holding preliminary talks ahead of the formal ballot.

According to the results, Die Grünen placed third in the election with almost 15 percent of the vote, posting a slight decrease compared with their previous result. "Die Grünen schnitten mit fast 15 Prozent mit einem leichten Minus, aber dem dritten Platz ab," the tally showed. The Greens are led in Graz by Judith Schwentner.
