Following Norway's 1:2 loss to England after extra time in the World Cup quarterfinal, Alf-Inge Haaland, father of Erling Haaland, accused the referee of fraud on the platform X, after which FIFA rejected the Norwegian criticism.

England defeated Norway 2:1 after extra time on Saturday in Miami, thereby advancing to the World Cup semifinal. After the final whistle, the frustration on the Norwegian side was vented primarily on social media. Alf-Inge Haaland, 53 years old and a former professional footballer, wrote on the platform X: "Ich habe das Gefühl, dass wir heute um den Sieg betrogen wurden".

The trigger for the outrage was a scene in regular time. TV images suggested that the ball had touched a cable suspended in the air before Jude Bellingham's equalizer, thereby changing its direction. Norway subsequently claimed that the equalizing goal had been scored under irregular conditions.
