Hailstorm in Milan during Bad Bunny concert: show suspended, injuries and 80,000 evacuated

Saturday evening was the second and final Milan date of the "Debí tirar más fotos World Tour", the global tour of the Puerto Rican star, "unica tappa italiana del tour". The previous evening, at the start of the stop, the concert had sold out with 80,000 spectators present, and for the second evening as well, attendance was expected on a similar scale.

The context: the Milan stop of the world tour

When the bad weather worsened, "In un primo annuncio diffuso dagli altoparlanti, gli organizzatori hanno invitato il pubblico a restare al proprio posto, nella speranza che la perturbazione si allontanasse". However, as the adverse weather conditions persisted, "è arrivato l'ordine di evacuare l'area e raggiungere le uscite di sicurezza". "I vigili del fuoco hanno evacuato le migliaia di persone accorse per il secondo concerto dell'artista all'ippodromo San Siro".

The hailstorm also caused consequences for the spectators present: according to what was communicated by the fire brigade, "diversi spettatori sono rimasti feriti, colpiti alla testa dai chicchi di grandine di grandi dimensioni, e soccorsi dal personale del 118". The injured were taken in charge by the emergency medical service and assisted on site.

The evacuation and rescue operations

The evacuation operations required a coordinated deployment between organizers, the fire brigade, and law enforcement. "L'arena è rimasta presidiata dagli organizzatori e dalle forze dell'ordine", to manage the outflow of the public in an orderly manner and ensure the safety of operations.

The public transport network was also affected by the emergency: "Chiusa in anticipo anche la fermata della metropolitana Uruguay, per agevolare la gestione dell'emergenza e dei flussi di persone". The decision was made to avoid gatherings near the venue and to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles.

Bad Bunny's concert was the main evening event at the Ippodromo Snai La Maura in Milan, in northern Italy. The suspension of the show was officially confirmed: "Il concerto è stato sospeso". It was not immediately clear whether the date would be rescheduled or reprogrammed at another time.

Transport and emergency management

At that moment, the agency sources report, "non si sapeva ancora se il concerto sarebbe stato spostato in un'altra data". The checks on the possibility of rescheduling the show continued in the following hours, while the authorities' attention focused on assisting the injured and the orderly return of the public.

Weather conditions had begun to worsen during the evening, until turning into a hailstorm of such intensity as to make it impossible to continue the event. The phenomenon was sudden and violent, with large-sized hailstones capable of reaching and hitting spectators even in the most sheltered areas of the structure.

For the Puerto Rican star, it was an unexpected stop on the only Italian date of a global tour, in a setting – that of San Siro – that just the day before had welcomed 80,000 people without incidents. The evening ended with the clearing of the area and the count of the slightly injured assisted by 118.

The news agencies continued to follow the evolution of the situation, with updates on the rescue operations and on the conditions of the spectators involved, while attention grew around the event in one of the most frequented areas of Milan in summer.
