Hamburg, 10 July 2026

Deutsche Bahn plans to reopen the rail line between Hamburg and Hanover for train traffic on Friday evening at around 9 p.m., after the approximately 163-kilometer-long connection had been closed for ten weeks as part of a quality offensive.

Schedule and ongoing work

A Deutsche Bahn spokesperson told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that the line was expected to be reopened on Friday evening at around 9 p.m. Work on the rail infrastructure was overall on schedule, according to the company. Peter Mantik, spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn, said: „Am Freitag um 21 Uhr soll die Strecke wieder geöffnet sein. Das ist der Plan." At the same time, he added that there had been a feverish push in the final stretch: „Wir haben im Endspurt fieberhaft gearbeitet. Es gab bis jetzt keine größeren Zwischenfälle, die den Zeitplan gefährdet haben."
