Outbreak Details

The cruise ship *Hondius*, carrying 61 crew members, departed Argentina several weeks ago and was scheduled to dock in Cape Verde when the outbreak was detected. Three passengers have died, including an elderly Dutch couple and a German national. One of the Dutch passengers was confirmed to have had Hantavirus, according to the ship's operator, Oceanwide Expeditions, citing the World Health Organization (WHO).

Another passenger is currently receiving intensive care in South Africa after laboratory tests confirmed Hantavirus infection. Two crew members are also ill and suspected of carrying the virus.
