Magdeburg, June 29, 2026
On the A2 motorway near Burg in Saxony-Anhalt as well as on sections of the A14 near Magdeburg, traffic has been closed since Thursday and Saturday respectively due to heat damage to the road surface, and the lifting of the closures is being delayed indefinitely.
The heat has left its mark on several German and Austrian motorways in recent days. As the ADAC reports, citing the federal Autobahn GmbH, the A2 in the Jerichow Land region has been closed in two places since Thursday. On Saturday, additional heat damage occurred on the A2 toward Berlin between Irxleben and the Magdeburg interchange as well as on the A14 toward Schwerin between the Magdeburg interchange and Dahlenwahrsleben.
The overpass from the A2 toward Hanover onto the A14 toward Schwerin is also closed. Since new damage occurred on Saturday, the lifting of the closures is being postponed indefinitely according to the ADAC. The A2 toward Hanover near Burg in Saxony-Anhalt is expected to remain closed until Sunday afternoon.
