A multi-day heatwave is straining Italy's wine industry and, according to industry representatives, is jeopardizing the 2026 Prosecco vintage, while rice farmers and livestock breeders are also suffering from drought and rising costs.

Acute Situation in the Prosecco Region

Italian agriculture is under pressure from a heatwave that has persisted for days, significantly dampening expectations for an exceptional 2026 wine vintage. As the farmers' association CIA-Agricoltori Italiani reported, grapes are suffering particularly from the high temperatures, which can slow the ripening process and impair the development of varietal aromas.
