A humpback whale was sighted off Heiligenhafen on Germany's Baltic coast on Thursday, the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of the Environment said it had verified following a police report.
The German Oceanographic Museum had received two sighting reports off Heiligenhafen between 12:00 and 14:00 on Thursday, a spokeswoman told the German Press Agency. The "Lübecker Nachrichten" had previously reported on the sightings. The Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of the Environment said it had verified a corresponding sighting reported by the police.
Once again, a humpback whale has been discovered in the Baltic Sea. The Ministry pointed out that "wandering large whales" sometimes naturally appear in the Baltic Sea and "stay here for shorter or longer periods of time".
