The IG Metall union rejected the employer offer for the metal industry on October 27, 2026, thereby preventing a conclusion in the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations.
IG Metall rejected the proposed outcome of the collective bargaining negotiations. Knut Giesler said the union was rejecting the offer "decisively." With this stance, an agreement in the metal industry remains out of reach for the time being.
The negotiations for IG Metall are being led by Südwestmetall. Peter Sebastian Krause, Südwestmetall's chief negotiator, described the employer offer as a fair and very finely balanced proposal. He said the offer enables "a wage increase in the greatest structural crisis since the founding of the Federal Republic."
