Innsbruck, July 10, 2026
Innsbruck FPÖ city councilor Marlene Trinkl left the Freedom Party caucus on Friday and wants to continue exercising her mandate on the city council as an independent councilor.
The 68-year-old Trinkl, who has been sitting in the Innsbruck city council for the opposition party since the 2024 election, publicly explained her step on Friday. Speaking to the "Tiroler Tageszeitung," she said: "Ich habe keinen anderen Ausweg mehr gesehen, als aus dem Klub auszutreten." She wanted to now "in Zukunft die eigentlichen Werte der FPÖ vertreten" and had no intention of giving up her membership in the Freedom Party.
The reasons for the break
Trinkl cited several factors as reasons for her departure. The concerns of senior citizens had been repeatedly disregarded, and cooperation had become increasingly difficult. In addition, the Innsbruck FPÖ would in part also "stark von der Parteilinie abweichen." In the caucus there had been "gewisse Menschen" who had not stood behind her and did not want to work with her, Trinkl said in the online edition of the "TT."
