Vienna, July 6, 2026
The introduction of the electronic parent-child passport in Austria, planned for October 2026, is being postponed by one year, according to an APA report.
The digitalization of Austria's healthcare system is therefore suffering another setback. The electronic parent-child passport, which replaced the former mother-child passport, was actually supposed to gradually go online in the autumn of this year.
The Ministry of Health justified the postponement with technical and organizational challenges. Specific details on the reasons were not initially made public.
Background
The Austrian Medical Association reacted to the announcement with sharp criticism. In a letter, the professional body described the approach as "more than surprising."
