Tel Aviv, July 2, 2026

Israel marked the 1,000th day after the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023 with nationwide protests and memorial events remembering the victims, while opposition politician Avigdor Lieberman accused the government of grave failures.

The first memorial ceremony began early in the morning at an intersection in the Galilee in northern Israel. Further gatherings were planned across the country throughout the day. The proceedings were opened by a central rally at the so-called Hostages Square in the center of Tel Aviv. People also came together at other locations across the country to commemorate those killed and to make a statement.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas and other extremist groups attacked Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people. More than 250 people were abducted and taken as hostages to Gaza. The massacre triggered the devastating Gaza war, which, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority, has since claimed more than 73,000 Palestinian lives.
