Gaza, 28 May 2026

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed the military to seize 70% of the Gaza Strip, a move that would significantly expand Israel's control over the territory.

The order comes despite existing agreements and ceasefire arrangements. Israel currently controls approximately 64% of the Gaza Strip.

Under a US-mediated ceasefire, Israel would have to withdraw to the so-called 'Yellow Line,' giving the army control over about 53% of the Gaza Strip.

The US-mediated plan includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the disarmament of Hamas. However, negotiations over the plan are not progressing.

Netanyahu described territories seized in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon as 'buffer zones' against possible attacks on Israelis. He used the term 'Pufferzonen' to describe these areas.
