Attack on Hamas police post in Jabaliya

In another airstrike in Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip, a 36-year-old man was killed. Israel has intensified its attacks on Hamas security forces and police posts since October.

The Israeli military stated it had targeted a Hamas member. The army had not commented on the incidents in Rafah and Jabaliya as of early afternoon.

Peace talks in Cairo under pressure

The new violence coincides with talks by a Hamas delegation in Cairo on implementing the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan. The negotiations concern the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of the Israeli army.

According to insiders, however, there has been little progress in recent weeks. The gap between the diplomatic efforts in the Egyptian capital and the military situation on the ground is becoming increasingly apparent.

Strategy of targeted attacks on security forces

Observers see the attacks on police posts as a continuation of the Israeli strategy of systematically weakening Hamas's security structures. Hamas had repeatedly reorganized police forces in the refugee camps and urban centers in recent months.

International attention is now focused on Cairo, where mediators are pushing for a ceasefire. So far, neither the Israeli government nor the Hamas leadership has issued a statement on the current state of the negotiations.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains tense. Local aid organizations warn that the continued airstrikes are further complicating the supply of medical aid and food to the civilian population.
