Julián Álvarez has told US broadcaster ESPN that he wants to leave Atlético Madrid, just days after the club reportedly rejected a 150 million euro bid from city rival Real Madrid.

Álvarez, 26, made the comments after Argentina beat Austria 2-0 at the World Cup, where he has been used sparingly because of ankle problems. "Das Beste für alle wäre ein Wechsel. Ich möchte mir meinen Traum erfüllen," the striker said. He added: "Ich glaube nicht, dass es der richtige Zeitpunkt ist, darüber zu sprechen, aber ich kann es auch nicht verheimlichen."

The Argentine has been at Atlético since the summer of 2024, when the club paid a reported 75 million euros to Manchester City for his services. In the current season he has scored 20 goals and provided 9 assists, while in the previous Champions League campaign he contributed 10 goals and 4 assists.
