The Swiss private bank Julius Baer has reached an out-of-court settlement with the insolvency administrator of the central Signa entity, Norbert Abel, and will pay a double-digit million amount to the insolvency estate.
Background of the settlement
The agreement ends the civil proceedings that had been pending before the Vienna Commercial Court. The estate administrator had originally sought to reclaim 62.2 million euros from the bank. The dispute centered on the allegation of creditor preferential treatment: Signa Prime is alleged to have transferred 50 million euros to Julius Baer shortly before its collapse in order to make a special repayment on a loan.
