Vienna, October 21, 2026
On October 21, 2026 in Vienna, Kija Wien presented proposals to address the overcapacity of crisis centers and at the same time called for more measures to relieve the facilities.
The Vienna child and youth protection organization complains that the crisis centers are currently completely over capacity. With its proposals, it wants to improve the existing situation and reorganize the admission and care of children and young people.
Kija Wien advocates for an overall expansion of places as well as a further differentiation of age groups. This is intended to provide children and young people in different developmental and care situations with more suitable offers.
In addition to the expansion of capacity, Kija Wien proposes that the composition of groups be determined more strongly according to pedagogical criteria. Regional aspects should not be the sole deciding factor in this regard.
