A long wait for a reunion

Prince Harry had arrived in London on Monday for a multi-day visit to Great Britain. Previously, in September 2025 during a UK stay, he had already met his father for tea at London's Clarence House. At that time, according to palace sources, no larger family gathering had taken place.

The current meeting comes at a time when the relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal family is considered strained. Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and have since lived in California. In 2025, an appeals court also rejected Harry's challenge to a Home Office decision that he and his family would no longer automatically receive the same security status as the rest of the royals when traveling to Great Britain.

Strained relationship and security dispute

Independently of the family gathering, Harry is taking part in engagements in Great Britain this week. He co-founded the sports competitions for wounded veterans in 2014 and remains active in this field. Meghan had previously appeared publicly with Harry on earlier trips, such as to Colombia in August 2024.

Buckingham Palace remained tight-lipped about the relationship between the two brothers, Prince Harry and Prince William. Observers nevertheless see the Highgrove meeting as a signal of a cautious rapprochement. The fact that the grandchildren are setting foot on British soil for the first time since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral is regarded by many royal experts as a remarkable step.
