Klagenfurt, 18 August 2026

A 50-year-old woman from Carinthia has been standing trial since Tuesday at the Klagenfurt Regional Court on charges of attempted murder of her husband.

At the center of the proceedings is an act in which the defendant's husband was seriously injured following an attack with a kitchen knife. The man had to be airlifted to a hospital by rescue helicopter and could only be saved through emergency surgery, as the documents show.

At the start of the criminal trial, the public prosecutor's office delivered its opening statement. In it, the prosecution described the spouses' relationship as toxic and marked by years of severe alcohol abuse.

The defendant herself did not make any further statements regarding the charges, according to the available reports. The trial is being conducted before a jury court, which is responsible for particularly serious offenses.
