Lower Saxony's Minister-President Olaf Lies (SPD) has criticized Volkswagen's group leadership in light of media reports about possible massive job cuts and plant closures, while also formulating demands on the company.

Lies commented on the reports on the ZDF magazine "Berlin direkt," according to which the Volkswagen group could cut up to 100,000 jobs worldwide and close up to four German plants. He criticized the handling of confidential supervisory board matters and said: "It is a bit annoying that what should actually be discussed internally in a supervisory board is now part of the public debate. That is first and foremost bad form, I think."
