Austrian tennis player Lilli Tagger fell in the first round of the WTA tournament in Cincinnati to Talia Gibson of the United States.

A Match Over the Full Distance

The duel between Lilli Tagger and Talia Gibson developed into a true marathon match on the grounds in Cincinnati. Over the full distance of three sets, both players had to give their all before the American was able to decide the match in her favor. The Austrian was able to set accents in between, but in the end it was not enough for the hoped-for opening victory at the important preparatory tournament ahead of the US Open.

The first set was still even from Tagger's perspective, before Gibson found the better answers in the decisive moments. The American, who had drawn attention to herself in recent weeks with solid appearances, used her experience and stability from the baseline to control the match. Tagger did fight her way back, but the decisive break chances were consistently thwarted by Gibson.
