Lilli Tagger and Tamara Korpatsch will play their first-round matches at the US Open in New York on Sunday, with the Vorarlberger facing 16th-seeded Sorana Cirstea and Korpatsch taking on Amanda Anisimova.
Lilli Tagger only just squeezed into the main draw of the US Open and used the remaining time to gain match practice at a 125-level tournament in Philadelphia. These few matches are meant to be enough to find her rhythm against the 16th-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea. Cirstea has years of experience on the big stage and has already defeated numerous top players throughout her career.
Tamara Korpatsch also faces a strong opponent on the tournament's first day in Flushing Meadows. She comes up against Amanda Anisimova, a player who has established herself among the world's elite and possesses a powerful baseline game. For Korpatsch, it is a chance to prove herself against a renowned opponent and perhaps pull off an upset.
