Vienna, May 19, 2026
Lisa Totzauer, a long-time ORF executive and former Channel Manager for ORF 1, has officially announced her candidacy for the position of ORF General Director, setting the stage for a competitive election on June 11.
Background and Career
Lisa Totzauer has been a prominent figure at ORF for nearly three decades, beginning her career in 1997 at the Landesstudio Niederösterreich. She later joined the "Zeit im Bild" (ZiB) editorial team in 1999, where she worked as a reporter and eventually became responsible for the program. Her leadership skills earned her recognition, including an innovation prize from *Der Österreichische Journalist* in 2016 and the title "Medienlöwin in Gold" in 2018.
In 2018, ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz appointed her as Channel Manager for ORF 1, where she oversaw successful prime-time shows like *Starmania 21*. Totzauer has advocated for reducing reliance on U.S. series in favor of in-house productions, aligning with her vision for a more independent and innovative ORF.
