The London City Lionesses have secured prominent reinforcement for the upcoming English Women's Super League season. The newly promoted side signed two-time world footballer Alexia Putellas, as the club from the London district of Ealing announced. This brings one of the defining players of European women's football to England's top-flight league.
The 32-year-old Spaniard won the Women's Champions League four times with FC Barcelona and was part of Spain's 2023 World Cup-winning squad. She was the first footballer to be named world footballer in two consecutive years, in 2021 and 2022. Overall, the Spanish international won 38 titles with FC Barcelona.
